The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games, or the 22nd Winter Olympics, is a major international multi-sport event being held in Sochi, Russia. Scheduled for February 7~23 2014, Sochi was selected as the host city in July of 2007. The USSR was the host nation for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
I do have to say the Fireworks Display is fantastic!!!!
A total of 98 events in 15 winter sport disciplines are being held during the Games. A number of new competitions—a total of 12 accounting for gender—are being held during the Games, including biathlon mixed relay, women’s ski jumping, mixed-team figure skating, mixed-team luge, half-pipe skiing, ski and snowboard slopestyle, and snowboard parallel slalom. The events are being held around two clusters of new venues; an Olympic Park constructed in Sochi’s Imeretinsky Valley on the coast of the Black Sea, with Fisht Olympic Stadium and the Games’ indoor venues located within walking distance, and snow events in the resort settlement of Krasnaya Polyana.
If you are an Olympic Watcher, the activities that you can tune into today will include some of the following: Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Curling, Freestyle Skating, Ice Hockey, the Luge and many more today!
While many must remain in the comforts of their homes to enjoy there are many that are enjoying the Olympics ring side so to speak … Tickets for the events range from 200 Rubles to 20,000 Rubles.. I know that sounds odd, but the 200 Ruble event is actually only $5.79 in US Dollars!! While I certainly don’t think I would buy a ticket at the 20,000 level (figure skating) since that ticket equals $579.17 in US Dollars! Then we can add on the price of getting to Sochi to watch them..
For all the fans over there watching and enjoying the 22nd Winter Olympics have a blast while the rest of us enjoy them from our livings rooms, local eateries, or online and some just catch the highlights on the news!
