The season is here !! Summer BBQ, friends and family and nothing tops off the summer like corn on the cob! A backyard barbecue would not be complete without that favorite and summertime treat that people of all ages, across the nation, look forward to as we start the picnic season. Today and each June 11 of each year we celebrates National Corn on the Cob Day.
A sweetcorn that is picked while the kernels are still tender, corn on the cob is also found to be known as “pole corn”, “cornstick”, “sweet pole”, “butter-pop”, or “long maize”.
Boiling, steaming, roasting, frying or grilling are some of the most common ways of preparing corn on the cob. Many will even grab corn fresh from the garden and take a bite right there! Sweet corn is just that, perfectly sweet, tender and tasty!!!
Did you know that Etiquette books state that it is proper to eat corn on the cob by using your fingers to hold the cob on each end? Specialty skewers are available, and preferred by many, to hold the corn.
Call some friends, neighbors and or family members, make sure you have an extra salt shaker or two, plenty of butter and lots of napkins, then start the grill!!!
There isn’t anything better tasting that summer season when corn on the cob is available !!
